Casper’s Wyoming Medical Center Appeals Loss Of Federal Funds

By Mick Birge posted Oct 2, 2012 at 11:12AM

Wyoming Medical Center is fighting to win back millions of dollars in federal funding.

The federal government no longer considers the Casper hospital a “sole community provider” because a surgical facility in the city took care of more than 8 percent of the area’s inpatients in 2010. The hospital recently filed documents to appeal the loss of that designation.

Sole community provider hospitals get funding from the federal government to pay for offering services that sometimes lose money. The federal government’s decision was retroactive to New Year’s Day 2010 and Wyoming Medical Center had to return $15.7 million in funding.
