CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased slightly from May to June but remained higher than at the same point last year.
The Wyoming Department of Employment reported Tuesday that the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.8 percent in June. That’s down from 7 percent in May, but up from the 6.5 percent rate of June last year.
Wyoming’s unemployment rate remains below the national average, which was 9.5 percent in June.
Wyoming added 7,400 jobs from May to June. The department says that’s consistent with normal seasonal patterns.
The June figures also reflect the first over-the-year addition of jobs in the natural resources and mining sector in 16 months. Wyoming added 900 jobs in the sector from June 2009 to June this year.
