Freudenthal; Barrasso Both Say Legislation Is “Knee-Jerk” Reaction To Spill

By Mick Birge posted Jul 28, 2010 at 6:00AM

Governor Dave Freudenthal (pictured top) is urging U. S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to delay action on oil and gas regulations under a proposed bill he says has been hastily drafted.

Frudenthal says the bill would affect onshore leasing and energy production in states like Wyoming and rob the state of its traditional role of overseeing energy production.

In the U. S. Senate, Wyoming senator John Barrasso (also pictured) says the pending legislation is nothing more than a knee-jerk reaction to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico…(Click to hear comment from Sen. Barrasso)

Freudenthal is calling the legislation mistaken overreaction to the gulf spill.

Some Senate Democrats say a lack of regulation and oversight during the Bush Administration may be at the heart of the Gulf oil spill disaster.
