A Local MLB Hall of Famer Reflects on Steinbrenner

By Keith Kelley posted Jul 14, 2010 at 11:56AM

The man responsible for rebuilding the proud New York Yankees franchise passed away Tuesday morning, suffering a massive heart attack. George Steinbrenner purchased the Yankees in 1973 for $10 million. In his 30-plus years as owner, the Yankees won numerous pennants and 7 World Series titles. Steinbrenner changed baseball in the fact that he wasn’t afraid to spend millions and millions of dollars to “buy”world championships. Cheyenne native and MLB Hall of Famer Tracy Ringolsby said that Steinbrenner expected excellence from the people that worked for him, and adds he brought New York back to prominence in baseball.(click here for audio with Tracy Ringolsby)
Steinbrenner was 80 years old.
