Governor Signs Two Alcohol Related Bills Into Law

By Mick Birge posted Mar 4, 2010 at 7:50AM

Senate File 19 is now on the books.  The governor signed the bill into law during a capital rotunda signing ceremony yesterday.

The bill strengthens the state’s DUI laws with longer sentences for repeat offenders and broadening the time frame results from field sobriety tests issued by police can be used to establish whether or not someone is driving impaired.  Senator Tony Ross of Cheyenne is co-sponsor of the bill…(Click to hear comment from Sen. Ross)

Representative Ken Esquibel of  Cheyenne introduced a similar measure last year in the House but it failed.  Esquibel played a role in getting the new Senate bill through the House and to the governor for his signature.

The governor also signed into law yesterday Senate File 13 which targets underage drinking with tougher penalties.
