The former president of the Cheyenne Public Employees Association says the mayor’s office and the city council should conduct a proper study to determine if the city has proper staffing at all levels.
Claus Johnson says voluntary retirement will only get the city so far in closing its budget shortfall gap, and before furloughing or laying off city employees, a workforce study should be done to determine if the city has more or less employees in departments in cities of comparable size. Johnson says the idea was brought to the council last year, and it didn’t move forward, and speaking at Monday’s city council meeting, Johnson brought the issue of a workforce study up again…(Click here for comment from Claus Johnson)
The city council approved the ordinance for voluntary retirement for eligible employees, but, it has not taken the idea of furloughs or layoffs off the table.
