Both Sides Rest in Willoughby Murder Trial

By Mick Birge posted Jan 29, 2010 at 9:11AM

Both the state and the defense rested in the Troy Dean Willoughby murder trial in Pinedale yesterday.  The prosecution rested after nearly two of building its case against Willoughby (pictured upper right) who is charged with killing then 25-year old Lisa Ehlers of Jackson (pictured lower right) back in 1984.  Then, the defense rested without calling one witness.

The Sublette Examiner is reporting it was expected that state public defender Todd Oldham would call witnesses that knew or worked with Willoughby on a Daniel-area oil rig at the time but that did not happen and Willoughby did not take the stand in his own defense.

The prosecution is arguing Willoughby killed Ehlers in a rage over money saying he chased down her car before shooting her in a pullout along Highway 191 in Hoback Canyon near Bondurant.
