Subzero temperatures tonight

An Arctic cold front has brought winter weather back to Wyoming with frigid temperatures, light snow flurries and cold wind chills. As skies clear tonight across the state, expect overnight low temperatures to dip to the single digits to well below zero in many areas of the state. The northeast, central and western valleys will have the coldest temperatures, ranging from -7 to -21, single digits to -10 will be found elsewhere. Skies will be fair on Tuesday with temperatures rebounding into the 20s to 30 in most areas.
Cheapest Gas Nationwide Found in Cheyenne

The latest Lundberg Survey of the nation’s gas prices says the cheapest gas can be found in Cheyenne. There a gallon of regular unleaded can be found for 2.38 a gallon. The most expensive is in Honolulu at 3.32 a gallon.
The survey says the average gallon price for regular unleaded gasoline has fallen 76 cents over the last two weeks. The nation’s average price is 2.67 cents.
Fruendenthal Encourages Lawmakers To Use Fiscal Restraint; Not Reserves

Governor Freudenthal opened the 2011-2012 Biennium Budget session this morning in Cheyenne urging lawmakers to use fiscal restraint when putting togther the state’s next two-year spending plan. Revenue forecasters are predicting the state will have three billion dollars to spend for the next two years. That’s a billion dollars less than the current two-year budget. Wyoming has enjoyed flush financial times for most of Freudenthal’s tenure since he took office in early 2003. However, the state’s energy boom has faded recently, and this morning, he encouraged lawmakers not to dip into the state’s 700 million dollar rainy day fund to make ends meet…(Click to hear comment from State of the State address)

More Recalls for Toyota; WYO Dealer Prepared

More problems for Toyota. The Japanese carmakers says it plans to recall more than 370-thousand Prius automobiles (pictured on right) because of a braking problem. Prius is Toyota’s flagship “hybrid” car. Toyota is already recalling 8 million other makes for various problems in including a sticky accelerator. There are six Toyota dealerships in Wyoming. Recall notices are being sent out to car owners affected by the recalls over the next couple of months, however Toyota officials say if you are having a problem with your car now, contact the dealership nearest you to get it fixed.

Two Cheyenne Men Stabbed In Alleged Knife Fight

Two men were hospitalized following a stabbing incident early Saturday morning at Carey and West Lincolnway.
Cheyenne police say they found Daniel Hinds with a stab wound to the torso. Police say Hinds was involved in a fight with Demetrius Elliott at that location. Hinds was transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical. Elliott was taken to CRMC by a friend. Police say Elliot had what they describe was a severe laceration to his left hand. Police are not releasing any other details about the incident which they say is still under investigation. Both men at last report was were listed in stable condition at CRMC.

Budget Session Begins Today; Gov Gives State of State Address

State lawmakers begin work today in Cheyenne on the state’s new biennum budget. And its setting up to be a spirited session thanks in no small part to state revenues being down considerably due to the on-going recession. State revenue forecasters say the state has roughly 3 billion dollars to work with for the next two years, that’s about billion less than the current two-year budget.
Governor Freudenthal says there is only so much lawmakers can do with the budget. He says lawmakers need to decide if the want to break into the state’s so called rainy day fund to make ends meet, or simply tighten the state’s belt…(Click to hear comment from Governor Freudenthal)
Rosie Berger is chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. She tells affililate KROE she does not support dipping into the state’s 700 million dollar so-called rainy day fund. State Has “Millions” In Unclaimed Monies

The Wyoming Treasurer’s Office has millions of dollars owed to state residents and it wants to give it to the rightful owners.
The unclaimed property division of the state treasurers office is launching it’s annual effort to connect Wyomingites with money that may be theirs that they don’t know about. Nancy Russell is the unclaimed property director for the treasurers department. She says unclaimed property can come from any number of sources…(Click to hear comment from Nancy Russell)
To if any of the money is yours, you can visit the treasures website to see if your name is on the list. Russell also says they will open a phone bank for the next two weeks starting Sunday so they can talk to owners of unclaimed property and mail out claims. Russell says this is not a scam and residents can feel comfortable calling in with questions and giving out information.
Sessions Says No Cuts to Hathaway!

For the first time in years Wyoming Lawmakers are headed into a budget
session with savings on their mind. The legislature’s budget session begins Monday. State Senator Kathy Sessions, a democrat from Laramie County says the legislature has done some good things last couple of years for the state of Wyoming. She says now she wants the legislature to preserve what they have accomplished.
Sessions is also a retired school teachers. She says one place she doesn’t want to see any cuts made is to the Hathaway scholarship program…(Click to hear comment from Kathy Sessions).

Spritied Budget Session in the Making

State lawmakers convene for the 2011 biennium budget session this coming Monday at the State Capital in Cheyenne. Its expected to be somewhat of a spirited session with state revenues down and anxieties up.
